A nice remnant from Canadian university football, this Champion size L mesh jersey was worn by an unidentified player for the Guelph Gryphon program in the mid-to-late 1980's. The team did not use nameplates at the time. The style matches the jerseys worn by the Vanier Cup winning 1984 team however the Champion tagging appears to date to a slightly later season. I believe this style of neck tagging first appeared in 1986 but I do not know how long it was used. It shows some game wear with a couple of marks on the shoulders, a one-inch tear in the logo on the right sleeve and a small hole on the back shoulder. The jersey was acquired from a former equipment manager of the nearby Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
