Speedster Jimmy “the Jet” Cunningham signed with the CFL's Toronto Argonauts as a free agent in 1995. As a rookie, Cunningham was used primarily on special teams and had 3 punt return touchdowns. Cunningham became a weapon in the Argos base offense in his second season and led the league in all-purpose yards on his way to his first of two CFL All-Star selections. The Jet would sign with the Buffalo Bills in 1997 but did not make the squad out of training camp. Cunningham returned to the CFL by signing as a free agent with the BC Lions but was limited to just one game in 1997 and only four in 1998. Cunningham was again a CFL All-Star in 1999, leading the league again in all-purpose yards with over 1,000 yards returning kickoffs and 3 touchdown returns. Cunningham racked up another 1,000 kickoff return yards in 2000 but was released by the Lions after the season. Cunningham wore this jersey when he played for the XFL San Francisco franchise in 2001 where he delighted Demons fans in the “Hell Hole” by leading the team with 50 receptions and 408 receiving yards while also scoring on a 63-yard punt return. After the XFL folded, he made a comeback with the Argos in 2002 that lasted four games. Overall, Cunningham won two Grey Cups (1996 with the Argos, 2000 with the Lions) and returned a punt for a major in the 1996 classic. The Jet's younger brother, Chris "the Comet" Cunningham, also played for the Argonauts. To see his game worn jersey from his brief stay up north, click on the Argos link.
